In Maryland (where I am from), it is illegal to buy, sell, or use fireworks. This has prevented my family from setting off fireworks on the Fourth of July, New Years, etc. I do not believe the loss of liberty is warranted in this case. I think there should be an age limit on who can buy fireworks for safety reasons, but I think people over the age of 18 should be able to buy and use fireworks. Young children may not make smart decisions with fireworks, but I do not see a reason why adults, who are trusted to possess firearms, drink, etc. responsibly, should not be allowed to use them. Fireworks are legal in states such as South Carolina and there is no reason why Maryland should be any different.
A second law that affects me personally is jaywalking. Many people are guilty of this crime and do not even realize it. However, I do see why pedestrians need to respect roadways and follow the law in this situation. Drivers may not see pedestrians stepping into the street when there are no crosswalks and therefore this law helps provide a safer environment. Although this seems like an insignificant law, I think it is important in order to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers on the road. Pedestrians can take the extra minute to walk to the nearest crosswalk to prevent any accidents.
